BMW owners know what they bought — sophisticated engineering, precise driving feel, and a maintenance schedule that's not optional. The other reality of BMW ownership is that dealer service rates can run two to three times what an independent shop charges for the same work, done to the same specification. Frank's Automotive in Seguin services BMW with proper diagnostic tooling, BMW-specific procedures, and an independent-shop labor rate — without the dealer markup.

BMW issues we see most often

The patterns by platform:

  • Valve cover gasket leaks — extremely common across the N52, N55, B58 era. Oil runs down to the exhaust manifold and creates the smell BMW owners know too well
  • Oil filter housing gasket leaks — N20, N52, N55 — the second most common oil leak after the valve cover. Different gasket, similar symptoms (oil on the exhaust)
  • Electric water pump (N20, N52, N55) — fails between 80,000 and 120,000 miles. Overheating, sometimes preceded by a warning
  • VANOS solenoid issues — code P0014/P0015, rough idle, sometimes rough running
  • High-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) failures, especially on early N54 turbo engines (covered under extended warranty for a stretch)
  • Carbon buildup on intake valves — every direct-injected BMW eventually needs walnut blasting
  • Plastic cooling system parts — radiator, expansion tank, thermostat housing all develop cracks over time

BMW service we handle

  • Electric water pump replacement (we use OEM Pierburg pumps)
  • VANOS service
