A 30-minute oil change is the cheapest single thing you can do for the engine in your car or truck — and skipping it is the easiest way to take a $40 maintenance item and turn it into a $4,000 engine repair four years from now. Modern motor oil loses its additives gradually, picks up fuel dilution and combustion byproducts, and eventually stops protecting the bearings and cam surfaces that make an engine work. Frank's Automotive in Seguin does oil changes the right way — proper oil grade, OEM-equivalent filter, multi-point inspection — usually in under 45 minutes.
What we do
A standard service at our shop includes:
- The correct oil for your vehicle — conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic in the weight your manufacturer specifies
- A new oil filter, OEM-equivalent, sized to your engine
- A new drain-plug gasket where the design uses a crush washer
- Multi-point inspection — tire tread and pressure, brake pads visible through the wheels, all under-hood fluids (coolant, brake, power-steering, transmission, washer), belt and hose visual, battery test, lights front and rear
- Oil-life monitor reset if your vehicle has one
- A service sticker inside the driver's door jamb so you know your next interval
If your manual calls for synthetic, you'll get synthetic — we don't downgrade to save the customer a few bucks now and create a sludge problem later.
When to come in
Most modern vehicles on synthetic oil are good for 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes; some manufacturers go to 10,000. Conventional oil tracks closer to 3,000–5,000. The owner's manual is the source of truth — your make/model has a specific interval and we'll tell you what it is when you call.
Texas summer heat is harder on motor oil than mild climates. Long idles on US-90 in 100°F traffic, A/C on max, stop-and-go between Seguin and San Antonio — all of it accelerates oil breakdown. We tend to recommend full synthetic for daily drivers in Guadalupe County for exactly this reason. Also bring it in if your oil-life indicator is at zero, if you can't remember the last change, or if the dipstick reads black or milky.
Why Frank's
Our service technicians are ASE Certified, every oil change runs through the same multi-point inspection that's been our standard since 1998, and the work is covered by our 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty (mostly a formality on oil changes, but the principle stands). We use OEM-equivalent filters and name-brand oil.
Most of the suspension, brake, and belt issues we fix were first spotted during a routine oil change. Drop in on Kingsbury — request an appointment or call (830) 379-4840 — and we'll catch them small, before they get expensive.
