Acura is Honda's luxury division — proper Acura service is mostly about understanding Honda engineering with a few extra trim and technology layers. The MDX, RDX, TLX, ILX, and the NSX (a different beast) share platforms and a substantial parts catalog with their Honda counterparts. For Acura owners around Seguin, that's good news: dealer-quality service is available at a fraction of the rate when you find a shop that knows Honda inside and out. Frank's Automotive services Acura with Honda-platform depth and Acura-specific scan-tool capability.
Acura issues we see most often
Acura patterns are largely Honda patterns plus a few platform-specific items:
- Transmission issues on V6 MDX / TL (2003-2008 era) — the well-known automatic transmission failures from that period. Acura issued recalls on some, but the pattern outlives the recall window
- Power steering pump whine — Acura PS fluid is Honda-spec; substituting ATF kills the pump
- VTC actuator rattle on K-series engines (TLX, RDX) — cold-start grinding from a worn variable cam-timing actuator
- Idle air control / electronic throttle issues on older models — rough idle, sometimes stalling
- AC compressor failures across the lineup
- AcuraLink / electronics issues — battery drain from infotainment, especially on cars left sitting
- MDX rear differential fluid — Acura calls it "fill for life," which means service it on a real schedule if you want it to last
Acura service we handle
- Honda/Acura-specific transmission fluid (DW-1) — never substitute ATF
- VTC actuator replacement
- AC compressor and condenser service
- SH-AWD (Super-Handling AWD) rear differential fluid service
- Brake repair, oil changes, transmission service
