A battery rarely gives you weeks of warning before it fails. One morning the engine cranks slower than usual, and the next morning it doesn't crank at all. Modern vehicles also rely on the battery to keep dozens of computer modules holding their settings while parked, which means a marginal battery can cause "ghost" electrical problems — random warning lights, infotainment glitches, no-start without obvious cause. Free battery testing at Frank's catches these before they leave you in a parking lot.

What our battery service covers

  • Load test with calibrated equipment — apply about half the battery's cold-cranking-amps rating and measure voltage hold. A failing battery drops under load even when its resting voltage looks healthy
  • Resting voltage check — should be 12.6 V or higher fully charged
  • Charging system test — alternator output, voltage regulator, ripple. We don't replace a battery without confirming the alternator isn't the actual problem
  • Cable and terminal inspection — corroded posts and clamps cause about a quarter of the "battery problems" we see. We clean before we replace
  • Replacement — battery sized to your vehicle's group spec and the correct CCA rating; we don't undersize
  • Computer relearn where required — many late-model vehicles need steering-angle calibration, idle relearn, or window-position reset after a battery disconnect

When to come in

Common signs:

  • Slow cranking — the engine turns over more sluggishly than it used to
  • Repeated jump-starts — once you've jumped it twice, the battery is done
  • Dim headlights at idle that brighten when you rev (often alternator-related)
  • Battery warning light on the dashboard
  • Swollen or visibly distorted battery case — heat-related failure, very common in Texas
  • The battery is more than four years old

Texas summer heat is the single biggest factor in battery lifespan. Lead-acid batteries that last 5–7 years in cooler climates average 3–5 years here. If yours is heading into year 4 or 5, get a free test before you need a jump.

Why Frank's

ASE Certified service technicians, batteries sized for every make and model in stock, and we test the charging system before recommending replacement. The work is covered by our 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty, and the battery itself carries its manufacturer's pro-rated warranty separately.

Call with the symptoms — slow crank, repeated jumps, age past four years — and we'll test it free of charge. Request an appointment or call (830) 379-4840.
